WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HIJAB PINS?

I just started wearing hijab only a few months ago in February of 2015 and you know what? It has been quite a journey! This is the reason why I decided to document it on this blog and start my YouTube channel! As a university student in the United States, some questions that popped up in my mind were whether or not I would be hired or respected as a woman who is openly revealing her faith. Overall it has been a smooth ride, Alhamdulilah, and I have researched and learned so much about the tips and tricks needed to keep the scarf on my head.

Okay back to the real reason you are here 😀

I’m guessing that the reason you landed on this page is because you would like to learn more about hijab pins and how they allow you to secure the hijab on your head for extended periods of time. When you first start wearing hijab, please don’t be anxious because it will get easier. Trust me 😀 .

In my case, I was born into a Muslim family and didn’t start wearing the scarf full-time so it was an easier transition but OH MY it still took time to get used to it. Props to the reverts out there who are going cold turkey and being full time hijabers!! You are awesome!

Today I’m going to talk about the different types of hijab pins. There are three basic types in my opinion and each serves its own purpose.

3 TYPES OF HIJAB PINS

STRAIGHT PIN - THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HIJAB PINS - MUSKA JAHAN

STRAIGHT PINS

The straight pin is a very powerful tool but simple in structure. It is usually shorter than most pins and has a little ball attached to a needle. It is VERY cheap and easy to find in places like dollar stores, craft stores, and even convenience stores. I like to think of this pin as a “perfect placement” tool as it helps the hijabi drape the scarf around her head as she desires.

SAFETY PIN - THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HIJAB PINS - MUSKA JAHAN

SAFETY PINS

The safety pin is what I would call the “securing” pin because it secures the scarf around your head and neck. Using this pin allows the user to have more freedom when styling the scarf and gives her more confidence that the scarf will not slip off of her head. This type of pin is also VERY easy to find and I especially recommend the pins with the plastic on one side. I really like the plastic type because I personally would rather have the plastic right underneath my neck than the bare metal. In addition, the plastic makes the pin easier to handle and use because it is wider.

*If you are a beginner at wearing the hijab I highly recommend using the safety pin to keep the scarf in place. In addition, if you go to school or work in an environment that involves a lot of movement (ex. nurse, construction worker, personal trainer, etc.) this tip will be useful as well.

STICK PIN - THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HIJAB PINS - MUSKA JAHAN

STICK PINS

Stick pins are amazing because they serve a function but are beautiful at the same time. They are awesome because there are so many different styles to choose from! There are stick pins with beads, draped chain, flowers, etc. so if you love the idea of adorning your scarf make sure to look around for the ones you like 😀 .

Stick pins are similar to straight pins because they have a straight needle but the differences are that stick pins are:

1.) More decorated.

2.) Come with a closure.

3.) Used as a last step of the hijab wrapping process.

The reason for this is because ideally you would want the beautiful stick pin to be visible on the outside of the scarf.

Make sure to check out my store for stick pins! 😀
