HOW TO WEAR HIJAB IN THE SUMMER: A SURVIVAL GUIDE FOR HIJABIS

Asalamualaikum everyone! Today’s post is going to be about how to survive wearing hijab in the summer. I wanted to film this video before summer started, but I figured I should experience my first summer as a hijabi beforehand. After making it alive while wearing the headscarf in the scorching hot Texas weather, I’ve come up with a few ways to make life a bit easier

During the Summer it is just as important for us hijabis to maintain ourselves and stay fresh…..even though we are melting underneath our scarves. Although it can get a little uncomfortable I don’t regret crowning myself with the hijab because I enjoy the benefits of modest dressing, like protection from the sun for example.

Here are some simple ways to save your pretty little heads from the heat 😀 .

1. WEAR HIJABS WITH BREATHABLE FABRIC

When it’s hot and humid outside, the last thing you need is a thick, opaque pashmina wrapped around your head. Instead, I would highly advise using scarves that are loosely woven, like viscose scarves. They are very breathable and the easy airflow prevents heat from being trapped inside your hijab. If you don’t know what viscose is exactly, you don’t need to worry because it is pretty easy to identify. It is basically a loosely woven material that can be found everywhere because manufacturers love to use on scarves. The viscose scarf is an amazing invention because it provides coverage and comes in a large variety of patterns and colors. Although the viscose scarf is sheer in most cases, if you have one in a large size it should be no problem. In my case, I like to layer my hijab twice around my head to make sure that nothing underneath is visible.

Quick tip: Look for viscose scarves with busy patterns so that you don’t need to wear an underscarf for coverage.

2. WEAR LOOSE ROBES AND KIMONOS

To stay modest and chic in the heat, wear loose robes, kimonos, cardigans, etc. Not only are they super comfortable and easy to wear, this type of outerwear serves as a great air conditioning system to prevent trapped heat and keep you cool all summer.

3. WEAR SUNSCREEN

In order to save your skin from premature aging and embarrassing hijab tanlines, I highly recommend lathering some sunscreen all over your face and hands. My favorite sunscreen at the moment is the Alba Botanica Hawaiian Sunscreen because it the SPF is 45 and it has the best formula in my opinion. It doesn’t contain the harsh chemicals that most sunscreens do and it has 6 active ingredients, which all work together to give you the ultimate sun protection.

4. WEAR SUNGLASSES

I felt that this one was fairly obvious but I had to mention it. Not only do they make you look fab, sunglasses are a great way to protect your eyeballs from crazy UV rays.

5. WEAR COMFY SHOES – EX. BIRKENSTOCKS

I recently purchased a pair of imitation Birkenstocks and OMG I am blown away by how comfortable these sandals are. I have worn these babies way too much at the most inappropriate occasions but I don’t care because they are so darn amazing.
